At least three relief teachers haven’t received a single sen of the bonus the government has promised for them.
KUALA LUMPUR: Despite the government’s promise of a one-and a half month’s bonus for all civil servants in the Budget 2013, three temporary teachers have yet to receive a single sen, a DAP lawmaker revealed today.
This has raised a question mark over where the money has vanished to, and who is behind the disappearance.
Kulai MP Teo Nie Ching told reporters that the teachers had come to her with complaints they had not received the bonus, which was due on December 2012, January 2013 and Hari Raya this year.
“They have waited for half a year, but the bonus has not been forthcoming. I hope they get it during Hari Raya, but I [doubt] that will happen,” she said in ata press conference at the Parliament lobby.
“I don’t know whether there are ‘Little Napoleons’ who do not understand the circular, or the government is just not fulfilling its promise.”
She was referring to a circular from the government which states that civil servants qualified for the loan include temporary teachers.
Teo said that the school, Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina Senai, had already submitted a claim for the three teachers’ bonus in March, but to no avail.
“The Education department officers gave no reason for the delay in payment for the bonus. They just told the teachers to wait,” said Teo.
She said she was also informed by the Education Department in her area that thousands of temporary teachers were suffering the same plight.
