KOTA KINABALU: Consumers here are fuming over an apparent diesel shortage at petrol stations in several districts across the state.
Stations with diesel supply have been jam-packed with vehicles lining up to fill up their tanks.
There were stations with signs reading "kuota habis" (quota finished) or "pam sedang diperbaiki" (pumps under repair).
A consumer in Donggongon, Penampang, who wanted to be known only as Johnny, said he was allowed to fill up petrol for only RM50 at one of the stations here.
"I heard there were some that only allowed people to fill for RM30," said the businessman who claimed the problem had persisted since last week but had worsened in the last three days.
"In the past few days, I could still fill up if I came early or late in the evening and the queue was not too long but in the last three days, I could see signboards and cones up from early morning," he said of the indicators used by the petrol station near his home to show there was no diesel supply.
Tuaran Member of Parliament Datuk Wilfred Madius Tangau had tweeted that there was an acute shortage of diesel supply in the state capital.
He urged the federal government to alleviate the problem. "This is bad. Whatever the problem is, the relevant authorities need to act fast," he said.
