KUALA LUMPUR: Police have recorded statements from two people over a front-page headline in Utusan Malaysia following a report lodged at the Jalan Travers station by several individuals.
“The case has been classified under Section 4 of the Sedition Act. We expect to complete investigations in a week's time. It will be referred to the Attorney-General's Office then,” Kuala Lumpur CID deputy chief Asst Comm Khairi Ahrasa told a press conference yesterday.
On Tuesday, the newspaper carried a front-page headline asking “Apa Lagi Cina Mahu? (What More Do The Chinese Want?)” in what has been alleged is an attempt to portray the general election results as a Malay-versus-Chinese issue.
ACP Khairi also said that Kuala Lumpur police had received 476 reports throughout the general election period with the highest number (121 cases) about the indelible ink.
There were 22 reports on voters using someone else's identity cards, which would be investigated under the Election Offences Act, he said.
“Another four complaints were related to voters' names not being listed in the electoral roll and 12 were about vandalism of banners, posters and flags. We will refer all these cases to the Election Commission,” he said. - Bernama
