KUALA LUMPUR: A salesman was charged in a Sessions Court here with raping a teenager he had gotten to know through Facebook.
Khoo Kean Giap, 20, claimed trial to raping the 13-year-old girl at a unit in the Widuri Condo, Desa Petaling in Cheras at around 8pm in October 2012.
The accused, who was unrepresented, asked that the charge be read in Mandarin.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Ooi Chean Ling argued that the prosecution would not offer any bail to Khoo as he met the victim through Facebook and could attempt to contact or influence her through the social networking site if he was released on bail.
Upon questioning by Sessions Court judge Emelia Kaswati Mohamad Khalid, Khoo said he had gotten to know the teenager for about two months before the alleged incident occurred.
He claimed that though he knew her handphone number, he had not contacted her since last December.
Judge Emelia Kaswati allowed bail at RM10,000 with one surety and with conditions that Khoo surrender his passport and not attempt to disturb the victim through any medium.
"If she reports that you or any of your family members contact or harass her, your bail will be forfeited.
"I don't care if you're feeling unwell or have a cough.
“Even if you break your leg, I expect you to find a wheelchair and appear in court," she told the accused and his bailer on Wednesday.
The court set May 9 for next mention.
