SHAH ALAM: A 47-year-old man has been detained in connection with the robbery and rape of an American teacher.
The suspect was picked up at about 5am at his home in Jalan Klang Lama on Wednesday and will be remanded until March 19 to help in the investigations.
Shah Alam CID chief Senior Asst Comm Mohd Adnan Abdullah said the man and two others are believed to be involved in the abduction, robbery and rape of the 24-year-old teacher.
"We hope to detain the other suspects soon," he told a press conference Thursday.
SAC Mohd Adnan said the victim had stopped a taxi near a shopping mall to return to her house in Damansara Perdana at about 6pm on Monday.
But the taxi driver stopped a few minutes into the journey and picked up a man.
SAC Mohd Adnan said the driver made another stopped this time on the excuse that the car had run out of gas.
Shortly afterwards, a van came by and the teacher was told to go into a van which would take her home.
However, the victim was taken to a house where she was raped by one of the men.
SAC Mohd Adnan said the van driver helped the victim to escape the next day. She boarded a bus to Sungai Pelek, Sepang and lodged a police report.
SAC Adnan confirmed that the victim was raped and sustained injuries on her arms and legs.
"The victim was also robbed of her mobile phone and RM300 cash," he said.
Asked whether the suspect detained was the taxi driver, SAC Adnan refused to elaborate but confirmed he had previous criminal records for robbery and tested positive for drugs.
